The significance of cherry blossoms

I grew up in the Washington, DC area so there is an ingrained connection we seem to all carry to cherry blossom trees. There is such beauty to these fragile pink flowers that do not live very long once they have bloomed.

Naturally, a DC connection could be symbolism enough to make them perfect for a company in the area that deals with the delicate nature of death. Yet that isn’t the meaning behind the cherry blossom to me.

The cherry blossom symbolism does represent the fragility and beauty of life. But for me, I chose the cherry blossom ⏤ or it chose me, depending on your spiritual leanings ⏤ as a personal connection to my sister, Laura.

Laura tragically passed over on March 25, 2019. On the outside, she was tough as teflon. On the inside, she was a fragile, tortured beautiful soul. She had a heart of gold and the mouth of a truck driver. 🙂

Laura was born in Japan. One of her first tattoos was that of a cherry blossom branch. Her nickname for me growing up was Geisha Girl or Geeshy. The cherry blossom is the bond that still holds us together.

I took this photo in November 2019 in Laura’s backyard. The tree was completely barren — it looked dead…except for this branch. It is unheard of for cherry blossoms to bloom that time of year here. It’s simply too cold. Yet there she was.
Our loved ones continue to communicate with us; we simply need to be open to
